Random blue screens of death with Nvidia drivers?

I used Driver Max 5 to update my Nvidia GT Geforce 240M drivers but it messed everything up after rebooting (it was as if it had uninstalled the graphical drivers, computer had low resolution, etc) and had to resort to install the drivers using Nvidia's website. It went back to normal, but then blue screens of death started appearing randomly and turning off the computer. I can access windows normally but the screens still appear. I tried uninstalling everything related to Nvidia drivers and reinstalling, but no luck. This was without using safe mode though. Do I have to resort to use safe mode and uninstalling and then installing through there?
